Mysterious Umnak Island, USA and its incredible herd of wild Hereford

Along the finger of islands
that stretch from Alaska into the Bering Sea is the pristine USA island of Umnak. All kinds of waterfowl, seabirds, eagles, and marine mammals live serenely on and around this uninhabited paradise island. Umnak is in one of the most remote and mysterious locations on earth – quite literally “The Land That Time Forgot”.

To our specific interests is a sustainable herd of over 6,000 healthy wild Hereford’s. The original herd was planted here by the Russians back in the 1700’s and later by ranchers in the 1960’s. These animals graze on the nearly purple-green plush vegetation fortified by Alaska’s night-less summer days. The animal’s meanderings bring them from active volcanoes and bubbling hot springs to vast treeless expanses plush with tender nutrition-rich flowering vegetation. The beef, the wild fauna they eat, and the water they drink have received the highest level of 100% Certified Organic by Oregon Tilth, Inc. To say that this island and everything on it, is “organic” is an enormous understatement.
